Australian Morris 850

Paint Colours

The availability of paint colours varied over production, with the number and selection of colours changing over time. More than 30 different colours were used from 1961 to 1965.

Upon initial release in 1961, choice was limited to just four colours: Orient Red, English Grey, Araluen Blue, and Inca Yellow (British Motor Corporation 1961). These early colours are relatively rare as they were only available within the first year or two of production.

In addition to regular paint colours available to the general public, the 850 could be produced in special colours for fleets.

A known example of a special colour is for the Post Master General (PMG) Department, whose Morris 850s were produced in Birch Grey. Unlike most colours which were regularly updated, fleet colours remained unchanged for a long period to maintain consistency within fleets. For the PMG, Birch Grey was in use not only for the 850 but also for the later Mini Minor and Mini 1100.
